Criminal records will be taken into account for volunteering purposes. Under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, having an ‘unspent conviction’ will not necessarily bar you from any volunteering opportunities. This will depend on the circumstances and background to your offence(s). As Circles South West meets the requirements in respect of exempted questions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, all applicants who are offered volunteering opportunities will be subject to a Criminal Record Check from the Disclosure & Barring Service before the voluntary opportunity is confirmed. This will include details of cautions, reprimands or final warnings, as well as convictions.

  • Circles South West will hold your application form securely, in accordance with our GDPR data protection policy, for the entirety of your time as a volunteer and up to one year beyond that to allow you to seek references from us. If you are unsuccessful or choose to terminate your volunteer role we shall hold your application for 6 months before it is securely destroyed.
  • The information that you have supplied will be used by Circles South West for administrative and statistical purposes and will be processed in accordance with all current Data Protection legislation.
